THE
NATIONAL MS SOCIETY...ONE THING PEOPLE WITH MS CAN COUNT ON

news bulletin
Dateline:
February 4, 2002
Team Up To Make A Difference At 21 Different MS WALK Sites In The Greater
Delaware Valley On Sunday, April 21, 28 and May 5
The
opportunity to share the great feeling of helping others with your friends and family is
just around the corner. On Sunday, April 21, 28 and
May 5, gather a team, and share the excitement at the Greater Delaware
Valley Chapter of the National MS Society’s annual 2002 MS WALK. For more
information, call 800-883-WALK, or register online at www.WALK4MS.org.
Your team
strolls to help a third of a million Americans living with MS by collecting
pledges for completing the course at any one of the Greater Delaware Valley
Chapter’s 21 sites. The money raised supports research projects and client
programs for people with multiple sclerosis. The National MS Society also
seeks to educate the public about the FDA approved medications: Avonex,
Betaseron and Copaxone, which may delay or reduce future disability in many
people with MS.
Teams not only help stamp out multiple
sclerosis, they are also a great way to get the family together, build
company unity, or honor a special loved one. Some of the unique teams over
the years have included:
-
Louie
the Dog’s K-9s, a group of dogs and their owners who put their legs to
good use for Louie’s owner, Spring City resident Pam Groff, who has MS.
Louie and his team have special dog cookies, a booklet to teach kids about
MS and more.
- Kevin Snyder, senior
VP of Redner’s Markets in Reading, has used the MS WALK to show his
company’s support for the community, and is one of the event’s top
fundraisers. He first became involved following the MS diagnosis of his
wife, Cindy.
- Seventeen-year-old
Sewell resident Nick Ettore started his own team to help a relative with
MS. Last year, he led a team of high schoolers at the MS WALK at
Washington Lake Park.
- Bedminster Township
resident Lori Giampa was grateful for the efforts of her relatives to
raise money for a cure, but as someone with MS she wanted to do her part.
In 2001 she started “Lori’s Angels,” and crossed the finish line at the
Lansdale MS WALK.
“Building a team is as
easy as calling three friends, and making up a name, but the effects you’ll
have reaches across the country in the form of increased research, and
programs for those with MS. Please, join us this spring for a day of fun and
fundraising at any of the 21 sites throughout the Greater Delaware Valley,”
says Chapter President Judith G. Cohen.
