news bulletin

Dateline:  April 19,  2001

Time Is Ticking To Pre-Register For The National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s MS WALK On Sunday, April 22, 29 And May 6

Make a commitment to help over 8,400 area residents with multiple sclerosis by pre-registering today for one of 21 MS WALKs throughout the Greater Delaware Valley area on Sunday, April 22, 29 and, May 6. Participants collect pledges to help fund important MS research and to support local empowerment programs for families and individuals affected by MS. Each site features live music, family entertainment, well-stocked rest stops, a picnic lunch, medical/transportation support, prizes for top fund raisers. and a festive finish-line party. Participants may register on the day of the event at designated areas beginning at 9:00 a.m. The MS WALK will begin at 10:00 a.m. at all sites rain or shine! Call 800-883-WALK or visit the MS WALK web site at www.walk4ms.org, for more information.

“The MS WALK is very important to our organization. Every year it helps raise the money we need to fund breakthrough research as well as programs for people with MS. Past research has led to the development of three drugs for the treatment of the disease—Avonex, Betaseron and Copaxone. This year’s MS WALK has two goals. In addition to raising funds for research and client programs, we are trying to educate people about MS and the option of these new drug treatments,“ says Judith G. Cohen, Greater Delaware Valley Chapter president.

For those who need a faster pace, two MS Walks sites offer runs of varying lengths for joggers of all abilities. On Sunday, April 29, West Goshen Township Park is sponsoring a 5k run and on May 6, the Philadelphia Museum Of Art site will hold a 10k run through Fairmount Park. Call for more information or to register.
