DONATIONS OF AIR CONDITIONERS NEEDED FOR CHAPTER’S PROGRAM TO ASSIST MEMBERS; OTHER SERVICES ALSO AVAILABLE

It’s that time of the year when, once again, the chapter is looking for contributions of air conditioners in good working order for the annual summer air conditioner donation program.

Air conditioning helps alleviate the symptoms of MS exacerbated by the heat and humidity of a summer’s day. “In fact, temperature sensitivity affects most people who have MS and staying in an air conditioned environment is the most effective way to stay functioning,” says Pete Kennedy, the chapter’s programs director “For those who feel the heat, a one percent rise in core body temperature could mean a drop in functioning as well as felling unwell,” Kennedy continues.

Donations can be of any size or BTU, but should be in good working order. All donations are tax deductible. “One air conditioner can truly make a world of difference in a person’s life,” Kennedy says. “This is one way many in the community can and do help those with MS, and we’re most appreciative.”

If you need a unit to help relieve MS related symptoms this summer or would like to donate a unit, please call Barbara Marriott at 800-548-4611. “We provide units on a first come, first served basis. The sooner our members call, the better chance they have of getting the unit they need,” Marriott says.

In addition to the air conditioner donor program, the Greater Delaware Valley Chapter offers a variety of individual and family services to those who need assistance and can show financial need, reasonable outcome and do not have other available resources. Some services may require a physician’s prescription and cost sharing.

Services include:
*Durable Medical Equipment
*Incontinence Supplies
*Home and Respite Care
*Home Therapy
*Transportation
*Accessibility Support
*Case Management
*Family Fund

For information on any of these services, please call 800-548-4611.
