THE NATIONAL MS SOCIETY...ONE THING PEOPLE WITH MS CAN COUNT ON

news bulletin

Dateline:  September 5, 2002

Volunteers Still Needed For MS 150 City to Shore Bike Tour Saturday and Sunday, September 28-29

It’s almost here…the Greater Delaware Valley Chapter’s MS 150 City to Shore Bike Tour, presented by Commerce Bank and Subaru, one of the chapter’s most exciting events and one that attracts nearly 5,000 cyclists riding for a cure. Held Saturday and Sunday, September 28-29, the Tour features three route options, all meals and snacks, medical and sag wagon support and much more. To register, please visit www.ms150biketour.org or call 800-445-BIKE.

The work of cyclists is vitally important in funding MS research and programs, but it would be impossible for event cyclists to participate without the support of an army of volunteers, who staff rest stops, take registrations, pour drinks and make sandwiches, work on cheering committees and so much more. According to Kristina Fransel, tour manager, “Even though the Tour is just a few weeks way, we still have a variety of volunteer positions available for every age range and ability level. Time commitments range from a few hours to the entire weekend.” For more information about volunteering, please call Angela DiGiuseppe at 800-548-4611 or email her at angela.diguiseppe@pae.nmss.org.

Volunteers are deeply appreciated by cyclists according to rider Mark Donham, who rode in the chapter’s PA Dutch MS 150 Bike Tour earlier this summer. In a tribute to volunteers, Donham says, “To all those who cheered and rang bells and shook milk bottles filled with pebbles, I wish you all a special thank you. Your enthusiasm and cheers were all heard. After riding 15-20 miles from rest stop to rest stop, we looked forward to the noise, well wishes and smiles. Although it is not possible for me to list all
these unsung heros. We want to thank them all.”

Registration for all routes of the Tour is $45 until September 13; $50 until September 27; and $60 the day of the event. All participants in the MS 150 City to Shore Bike Tour are required to raise the tour minimum of $200 to be remitted the day of the event. Every participant is eligible for a commemorative Bike Tour t-shirt, and top fundraisers receive great cycling gear and trips.

The mission of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is to end the devastating effects of MS.
